Heaved a high sigh!

I am such a sucker for romance...really. Last night i saw this old chick flick Maid in Manhattan and it made me so badly want romance in my life...and that movie is not even that great a romantic movie. But as i sat there sipping a glass of wine, watching hunky Ralph Fiennes hold JLo...with 'Come away with me,' by Norah Jones playing in the background...i was all queasy and wondered for the hundredth time why romance just dies in a marriage...why we don't bother to keep it alive even after the honeymoon period, why we just take things for granted and why i so badly want it. I mean i know life is not like how it is in the movies, but it just cant 'not be there' right? Or am i just naive and refuse to accept reality?

  1. I thought I was the only soul under the Sun who is a sucker for romance even after marriage and all these days thinking 'I am abnormal'.

Good to realise now that this is very normal ...

I am still figuring out why does it die off ?

  2. Hi...! I just read your anniversary post from January below and it sounds like you and your husband are a mirror of me and mine!!

Anyway, I was just replying to your comment on my Olympic site post as you said you were two stops from Stratford - I wondered where you were as if you were Leyton that makes us practically neighbours but you could well live any direction from Stratford, I'm just assuming you mean outwards on the Central Line?

The only romantic gesture my husband has ever made in 14 years was the day when some freaky bloke came and pressed his face up against our flat window (ground floor right on street but with a high hedge so he wasn't on pavement. The window was open and he could have climbed in). I was terrified, scared him off but told police about it etc. When my husband came home he'd bought me a beautiful coffee table interiors book as a gift to cheer me up. It's the only time he's ever done something like that without being prodded and nagged.

And yes - Westfield Stratford here I come, purse in hand!!!

  3. just stumbled on your blog today...I guess everyone is a sucker for romance.but with jobs, kids, RESPONSIBILITIES and Responsibilities Romance gets kicked to the back of the bus!! I always promised myself I will never let romance die off in our relationship but now, if u ask me, Romance! What is that???

  4. I guess we women are fools. It always seems like we are the ones who wants the romance and men are always talking economics. For me the joy in any endeavor is lost when he says where, how, when? I mean, hasn't he heard about surprising the wife with flowers and a dinner out?!?!

  15. awwwww... i too feel the same..especially after seeing romantic movies i just go wild thinking abt romance... even i too thoguht before marriage that romance should be there after marriage and should not die and all..but then somehow i feel i too became like everyone else...life after marriage is not a honeymoon daily... even if we try many days are there where reality strikes more and then just fades like ordinary day :(... like u said we girls just dont like reality as much guys do...

i really wish everyday was romantic and always sleeping at end of day with smile instead of thinking tomorrow and responsibilties...
i m not sure whether i sound kiddish..he he he... its just a thought :)...

    a bigger SIGH!!!!!

  16. Well I'm married since 3 years now and to be honest I have been through phases what you talking about but I learned something early enough and I think life is on a better track now. Romance before marriage is effortless but after marriage is so much EFFORT. As others mentioned because responsibilities and everything else that life throws at you becomes a priority and everything else takes a backseat. You have to make a mind set and thrive towards it. Men somehow assume that its upto us to keep the romance up. And if we start getting into the fight of who should do what we miss the time which should have been spent at a beach chit chatting. So well, just make your mind up, take that first step. The best way is to do things together! Cook? Drive? Watch sports ( I know it sucks but you got to be there).

  17. Whenever I see couples who are so romantic, I always feel am I missing something. The R factor (romance) has completely died down in my marriage too, 6 years isnt a long period. I guess men dont prefer it, once they have the woman they want, they stop romancing... Hmm now I realise, its all flattery whatever romance we had at honeymoon!!

  18. Hmmm, maybe we ought to use the sappy movies to cheer us and bring romance into our romantic lives...use them as inspiration perhaps?
